Symantec launched its latest Corporate Responsibility Report

November 24, 2012 in Reporting

At the beginning of this month, security software giant Symantec Corporation has published its 2012 Corporate Responsibility Report, which reflects a significant progress on the company environmental, social and business issues. The report follows the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 framework at a GRI-Checked B+ Application level. As TriplePundit.com analysis it, “the report is a compelling example of how companies should frame its challenges and success to its stakeholders. Rather than a public relations exercise that broadcasts what a company wants you to hear, Symantec focuses on its most pressing material issues and therefore shines as a template of effective stakeholder engagement”.

On the environmental side, the company has succeeded overall in reducing its absolute carbon emissions by 5 percent year-on-year. Beside the anti- climate change activities (increased data accuracy, real estate consolidation, reductions in air travel, data center/lab efficiencies), the most important highlights of the report are reflecting the company’s concern toward stakeholders satisfaction, human rights and business ethic:

  • from FY11 to FY12, internal training course completion rates increased by 27 percent;
  • achieved a 100 percent score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index for the 4th year in a row;
  • launched a Women’s Empowerment Principles Key Stakeholder committee;
  • launched working group to align Symantec human rights policies with the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights;
  • Symantec employees volunteered more than 18,300 hours and donated more than US$790,000 to charitable and community efforts;
  • launched new Symantec cloud information protection platform;
  • expanded online safety to Android devices, giving parents visibility into what Web sites their children are visiting on the device;
  • rolled out new, streamlined global privacy policy and employee privacy policy programs.

“Equitable treatment of our workforce and ethical engagement with the world in which we operate are essential aspects of being a successful and sought-after employer, partner, and solutions provider. In addition to relentlessly protecting our customers across multiple platforms while upholding privacy considerations, we achieved many other notable accomplishments in three categories critical to our corporate responsibility strategy – Our People, The World, and Your Information” declared Steve Bennett, President, CEO, and Chairman of Symantec Corporation about the company’s vision on corporate responsibility.
